Very smart at best, winning three times last season, notably Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint at Del Mar where he was well suited by strong tempo. Not in same form in Hong Kong Sprint at Sha Tin when last seen in December, but loves fast ground, and is in calmer waters now, but has to shoulder a penalty.

Very likeable sprinter who continues to go from strength to strength, looking a pattern-class performer in a handicap when easily winning at York last week. Well worth his place in this company now and, though he'll need to progress again, it would be folly to ignore his claims in current heart.

Won a couple of handicaps last season, and seemingly wasn't suited by soft ground on final start at York in September. Should have favoured fast ground now, but he is flying a bit high moving into pattern company on return from 8 months off.

Ended last season better than ever with a win in listed company at Ascot, and produced another career best when much too strong for several of these in Palace House Stakes at Newmarket on return 3 weeks ago. Very much on the up and looks the one to beat again with conditions in his favour.

Smart sprinter for Henry Candy at his best, but looked in need of the run on debut for these connections in Palace House Stakes. Still showed signs his ability remains intact, though tough task to reverse form with Rumstar all the same.

Surprise winner of Abernant Stakes at Newmarket last year, and largely campaigned in Group 1 company after. Respectable second in local Group 3 Dukhan Sprint at Al Uqda in February, but not quite at that level in Palace House Stakes last time, and all best form at 6f.

A 2-time listed winner, who had a bad draw in Group 3 at Longchamp 13 days ago won by Mgheera, always trapped deeper than ideal. She's better than that, however, and has the potential to reverse that form. Consistent on the whole and has each-way claims.

Proved better than ever on first start for Ed Walker when winning Group 3 at Longchamp this month, helped by a low draw and able to race more towards favoured inside rail. May have more to offer for new connections, but likely needs to improve another half stone to have winning chance.

Progressed into a smart filly last year, best effort when winning listed event at Tipperary in first-time blinkers. She ran to a similar level when runner-up to Rumstar in Palace House Stakes on return, but she looked fit that day, and there's no reason she can reverse that form.

Likeable mare who has some useful form, but she's on a lengthy losing run, her last win coming in soft-ground Palace House Stakes in 2023. Still some way below her best in listed race at Newmarket last time and she needs soft or heavy ground to be fully effective.

Sole 3-y-o in the field who gets all the weight allowances. However, her form is some way below what is required to win a usual renewal of this race, and she needs to come on plenty for her reappearance at Cork to figure.

Forecasts

Rumstar (7/2), American Affair (4/1), Mgheera (4/1), Washington Heights (13/2), Starlust (7/1), Electric Storm (12/1), She's Quality (12/1), Grande Marques (14/1), Twilight Calls (14/1), Vadream (25/1), Law Of Average (50/1)

Verdict

RUMSTAR had several of these in behind when winning the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket on return, and the manner in which he cruised through that race suggests he's the type to develop into a top-level sprinter this season. Sure to have tightened up (he was carrying condition) for that outing, he's fully expected to record another win on his way to the King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot. American Affair and Electric Storm may be the two to follow him home.
